A native of Binghamton, New York, Phillip Truex is a versatile performer and teacher, holding dual bachelors degrees from Ithaca College in Music Performance and Education, and a Master of Music from the University of Northern Colorado. Phil commands over a decade of teaching experience, and now he maintains a small studio of low brass students of all ages and abilities. While remaining in high demand as a clinician and teacher he performs widely in southeast, but calls Atlanta his home.
As a performer, Phil has worked with the Atlanta Opera, the Columbus Symphony Orchestra, the LaGrange Symphony Orchestra, the Macon Symphony Orchestra, the Macon Pops, the Carroll Symphony Orchestra, Joe Gransden's Big Band, the Equinox Orchestra, the Drive-By Big Band, the Georgia Brass Band, and Il Brasso Magnifico. A previous resident of northern Colorado, Phil has also held positions with the Colorado Jazz Orchestra, 9th and Lincoln Jazz Orchestra, the Greeley Chorale, and the Larmier Chorale. Phil has appeared on several recordings for UNC Jazz Press, and has performed at the Greeley Jazz Festival and the Telluride Jazz Celebration. He has worked with artists such as the New York Voices, Patti Austin, Jeff Coffin, Donny McCaslin, Benny Green, Jeff Hamilton, Terell Stafford, Jeff Clayton, and many others.
